Our story

Venture builders are a decisive ingredient in innovation, particularly in complex and highly regulated industries. Alpine Style is the first venture builder specialised in trade finance and credit insurance.

It is an exciting time for the sector: digital technologies and powerful business models are catalysing unprecedented opportunities to reinvent trade finance and credit insurance for underserved segments.

Alpine Style results from two highly complementary perspectives: A trailblazer for numerous innovations in trade credit insurance, Christophe is best known for co-founding the Euler Hermes Digital Agency (EHDA), while Paul managed the massive scale-up of emerging business models in the adtech industry.

During their respective careers, Christophe and Paul both found that “Alpine style” teams and ventures were consistently the most successful ones, and decided to create a venture builder based on this approach.

Alpine Style relies heavily on its global network of recognised experts and proven entrepreneurs. Together, we collaborate openly and cultivate a fertile ecosystem for ambitious visions, lean experiments and “Alpine style” execution on the most promising ideas incubated.

Our investment strategy

Our current investment strategy revolves around three deep changes affecting trade, trade finance and credit insurance. We explore these changes - you guessed it - "Alpine style".

The abundance of underserved companies and markets, combined with the emergence of digital ecosystems and new technologies, are creating unprecedented conditions for sector disruption. Now is the time to revisit the core pillars of trade finance and credit insurance, explore wild ideas and unchartered routes, and conquer new summits before they turn into trillion dollar ecosystems.

Yet, most innovators do not wake up in the morning thinking of disrupting trade finance or credit insurance, and as a result, incumbents can have a hard time challenging the established paradigms. We address these opportunities with the right mix of field expertise and breakthrough innovation.

The first deep change we anticipate is the trade data revolution. We take a slightly unusual stance at it, investing primarily in opportunities aiming at generating or getting access to exponential quantities of data, rather than tapping into the already crowded AI space.

Our second bet is on marketplaces and platforms. Platform business models surpass traditional approaches by augmenting the value created for sellers and buyers of trade services. We explore what trade finance and credit insurance could look like once the sector embraces the platform revolution.

Our third (and currently last) investment thesis assumes that distribution in trade finance and credit insurance is yet to jump on the digital bandwagon. We are leveraging our network and bringing game-changers to the table, as we believe that starting from a blank sheet of paper is the best way to design radically more efficient distribution solutions for the industry.
